This is an exceptional actual size reproduction of an Elizabeth Keith original from 1924.
Only one Japanese style panoramic image of the Hong Kong Harbor was made by her as a woodblock print; produced by Watanabe. Originals are very rare, expensive and almost impossible to find easily. Print editions were very small and the originals were dated 1924.
This impressive Kong Kong Panorama is printed in the Dai Oban size used by her in 1924 which is bigger than the normal traditional Japanese woodblock print.
We've decided to reproduce it in exactly that size to ensure the integrity of the original and taken great steps to control the process from the photography of the originals, through to color balancing and final print output. We are unique as we do all of this in-house.
Our research has also located an extremely rare version of a day time Hong Kong panorama. This print is obviously made using most of the woodblocks that were used for the night panorama. The daytime version has hardly ever been seen and originals of it by Elizabeth Keith may number just a handful worldwide; it is such a rare image that it does not even appear in her “catalog raisonne”.
Now, probably for the very first time, at HongKongPanorama.com we make available as high quality reproductions both the nighttime and very highly sought after daytime versions on high quality 310 gsm weight FineArt paper.
